Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are waiting for Sri Lanka Cricket’s clearance for pacer Matheesha Pathirana to join the team. Pathirana, who was signed for Rs 18 crore at an auction last year, is recovering from a left calf injury. Due to the delay in clearance, he will miss KKR’s opening game against Mumbai Indians.
Assistant coach Shane Watson mentioned that they are hopeful of Pathirana’s arrival soon. The franchise is coordinating with Sri Lanka Cricket to ensure his swift transfer. Watson emphasized the importance of Pathirana’s fitness and stated that they do not want to rush his return to avoid any further injuries.
Watson highlighted Pathirana’s significant role in the team and expressed optimism about his early inclusion. He also praised the talent pool of T20 players in Indian cricket, acknowledging the depth and quality they bring to the sport. Additionally, Watson hinted at KKR considering Angkrish Raghuvanshi as a wicketkeeping option in the absence of specialist glovesmen.
