Three-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have received a significant boost as pacer Matheesha Pathirana has been cleared to join the team for the ongoing season. Pathirana, bought for a hefty 18 crore in the auction, had faced uncertainty due to a previous injury during the T20 World Cup.
Pathirana, who previously played for Chennai Super Kings, is set to bolster KKR’s bowling unit with his experience. Despite missing the upcoming matches against CSK and Gujarat Titans, he is expected to be available for selection from the game against Rajasthan Royals on April 19.
KKR, facing a challenging season start with just one point in four matches, has been grappling with bowler setbacks. Injuries to key pacers and the release of Bangladeshi bowler Mustafizur Rahman have added to their bowling woes.
