Kolkata Police has appointed top officials as Nodal Officers to boost administrative readiness for the upcoming Assembly Elections. The directive, issued by the Kolkata Police Commissioner’s Office, assigns specific responsibilities to these officers in preparation for the polls. Joint Commissioner Nilanjan Biswas will serve as the District Election Officer for Kolkata North, while Joint Commissioner Ajay Prasad will take on the role for Kolkata South.
The Administrative Branch of the Kolkata Police Directorate has designated officers to manage various election-related duties. Joint Commissioner Subhankar Bhattacharya will serve as both the District Election Officer and District Magistrate for South 24 Parganas. Deputy Commissioner Vidit Raj Bhundesh has been appointed as the Nodal Officer for matters related to the Model Code of Conduct, overseeing its implementation across Kolkata North, Kolkata South, and South 24 Parganas.
These appointments, approved by the Kolkata Police Commissioner, are crucial for maintaining law and order, enforcing electoral rules, and ensuring coordination during the election period. The Nodal Officers’ roles are expected to play a significant part in the smooth conduct of the elections and the overall management of the electoral process. As the election dates approach, these administrative preparations are set to intensify.
The Assembly elections in West Bengal, covering 294 seats, will take place in two phases on April 23 and 29. The Election Commission has transferred numerous IPS, IAS, WBCS, and police officers across the state to facilitate fair, free, and peaceful polls.
