With a robust Indian community comprising approximately 1 million people, Kuwait hosts the largest expatriate population in the country, encompassing a diverse array of professionals ranging from engineers, doctors, and chartered accountants to scientists, software experts, and management consultants. This community also includes technicians, nurses, retail traders, and businessmen, contributing significantly to Kuwait’s socio-economic landscape.
Moreover, the Indian Business Community in Kuwait has established a formidable presence in the local market, particularly in the retail and distribution sectors. The enduring friendship between India and Kuwait, deeply rooted in historical ties, has endured the test of time, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). India has historically been a vital trading partner for Kuwait, with the Indian rupee serving as the legal tender until 1961. The year 2021-22 marked the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, underscoring the enduring bond they share.
Recently, on April 17, the Indian Ambassador to Kuwait, Adarsh Swaika, paid a courtesy visit to Kuwait’s Deputy Prime Minister, Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, commending his expatriate-friendly policies and discussing matters pertaining to the Indian community.
