New Zealand fast bowler Kyle Jamieson is waiting for his chance to play for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the upcoming IPL season. Despite not having a defined role yet, Jamieson expects to take on new ball bowling duties when he gets the opportunity.
Having previously played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the 2021 IPL, Jamieson returned to the tournament as an injury replacement for Lockie Ferguson at Punjab Kings. Towards the end of the competition, he performed well, taking five wickets in four matches at an economy rate of 9.8, including a three-wicket haul in the final against RCB.
During a virtual roundtable chat, Jamieson mentioned that he foresees himself handling the new ball responsibilities but remains open to being flexible across different phases of the game. He praised Axar Patel’s captaincy at DC, highlighting the positive team atmosphere and the impressive performances of young batter Sameer Rizvi.
Jamieson supported DC pacer Mukesh Kumar’s approach of simplicity and sticking to one’s strengths, citing the example of Josh Hazlewood’s consistent lengths. He emphasized the importance of character and resolve in maintaining composure under pressure and executing one’s strengths effectively.
The IPL serves as a significant platform for Jamieson, beyond just selection and roles, as he views it as a prime opportunity for self-improvement. He values the tournament as a challenging environment that pushes players to constantly learn, grow, and test their skills under high-pressure situations.
