The 25th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards took center stage on March 8 and 9, 2025, at the Jaipur Exhibition & Convention Centre in Rajasthan. The grand event, known as the “Bollywood Oscars,” celebrated the best of Indian cinema, featuring electrifying performances, high fashion, and an emotional rollercoaster of wins and surprises.

The night belonged to Kiran Rao’s “Laapataa Ladies,” which swept the awards with an impressive 10 wins, including the top honors of Best Film and Best Director. However, the biggest moment of the evening was 17-year-old Nitanshi Goel’s historic win as Best Actress, making her the youngest ever to receive the honor in IIFA’s history.

“Laapataa Ladies” Emerges as the Big Winner

“Laapataa Ladies,” directed by Kiran Rao and produced by Aamir Khan Productions, proved to be a cinematic masterpiece that resonated with audiences and critics alike. The film, set in rural India, tells a compelling story of two young brides who get separated on a train journey, leading to an eye-opening adventure about identity, independence, and societal norms.

The film won a total of 10 awards, including:

✔ Best Film
✔ Best Director – Kiran Rao
✔ Best Story
✔ Best Screenplay
✔ Best Actress – Nitanshi Goel
✔ Best Supporting Actress – Chhaya Kadam
✔ Best Cinematography
✔ Best Editing
✔ Best Production Design
✔ Best Background Score

This massive victory signals a shift in Bollywood storytelling, proving that meaningful, well-crafted narratives can triumph over big-budget commercial films.

Nitanshi Goel’s Emotional Win: Youngest Best Actress in IIFA History

One of the most defining moments of the night was 17-year-old Nitanshi Goel’s victory as Best Actress for her phenomenal performance in “Laapataa Ladies.” Competing against Bollywood giants like Alia Bhatt, Katrina Kaif, and Deepika Padukone, Goel’s win sent shockwaves through the industry.

As she took the stage, an overwhelmed Nitanshi broke down in tears, thanking director Kiran Rao and producer Aamir Khan for believing in her. In her heartfelt speech, she said:

“I never imagined winning an award of this magnitude at just 17. ‘Laapataa Ladies’ changed my life, and I dedicate this award to every young girl out there dreaming big.”

Her groundbreaking performance as Phool Kumari, a village girl who finds her strength and self-worth after getting lost, won hearts across India. This victory cements Nitanshi’s position as Bollywood’s brightest rising star.

Kartik Aaryan Reigns as Best Actor for “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3”

While “Laapataa Ladies” dominated the night, the Best Actor award went to Kartik Aaryan for his stellar performance in “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.”

Aaryan’s portrayal of Ruhaan, the eccentric and haunted psychiatrist, won widespread acclaim. His ability to balance horror and comedy in the third installment of the franchise proved his versatility, making him one of Bollywood’s most bankable stars today.

Star-Studded Performances Light Up the Night
