A tragic accident occurred at an under-construction ring road project in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, claiming the life of a labourer from West Bengal. The incident also left two other workers with severe injuries. The collapse of scaffolding supporting shuttering work at a height of about 60 feet led to the unfortunate event.
The project, located in Lalpur village near Bhedaghat, involves the construction of a flyover bridge and is a significant infrastructure initiative in Jabalpur. Three labourers, including Mursalem (35), Rasal (22), and Rajeshwar Singh (21), were working on the structure when it collapsed, burying them under heavy concrete debris. Despite rescue efforts, Mursalem succumbed to his injuries on the spot, while the other two survivors were rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
The injured workers are currently receiving treatment for serious injuries, including multiple fractures, internal trauma, and possible head injuries. They are under intensive care in the hospital’s trauma unit, with medical teams working to stabilize their conditions. Authorities are investigating the scaffolding failure, with initial reports pointing to potential lapses in structural support, material quality, or safety protocol adherence.
The ring road project aims to alleviate traffic congestion in Jabalpur and involves elevated structures and extensive concreting work. Safety measures during high-altitude activities like shuttering and formwork are crucial to prevent such accidents. An immediate probe has been launched, and officials are looking into the incident to determine the cause and prevent future occurrences.
Local leaders have expressed condolences for the deceased labourer and called for swift compensation and support for the victims’ families. The incident underscores the ongoing concerns regarding worker safety in large-scale infrastructure projects in Madhya Pradesh, amidst the state’s rapid urbanization efforts.
