The Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala has introduced a detailed two-volume election manifesto, emphasizing the importance of creating jobs and expanding welfare. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan launched the manifesto, highlighting the front’s commitment to sustaining the state’s development progress. Kerala is set to hold elections on April 9 to elect 140 new legislators.

A key feature of the manifesto is a robust plan for employment generation. The LDF has pledged to provide jobs to all students completing their education in the state, with an initial goal of employing 60,000 individuals in the current academic year. Over the next five years, the front aims to create job opportunities for 20 lakh women and offer interest-free loans to educated youth to encourage entrepreneurship.

Welfare enhancement is a significant focus, with the LDF promising to increase social security pensions to Rs 3,000. The manifesto also advocates for a rights-based approach to welfare distribution, aiming to enhance financial stability for marginalized groups. In the healthcare sector, the front has proposed comprehensive support for bedridden patients and a universal health insurance scheme to ensure affordable treatment for all.

In terms of development, the LDF has reaffirmed its dedication to extensive infrastructure and industrial expansion. It plans to work towards establishing a high-speed North-South railway corridor and attracting investments totaling Rs 2 lakh crore in the industrial sector over five years. The manifesto also emphasizes diversification strategies to bolster the public sector and maintain economic growth.

Addressing social and political issues, the LDF has suggested the introduction of a nativity card to alleviate concerns related to the Citizenship Act. Additionally, it has committed to finalizing the Sabarimala Master Plan within five years and continuing special development initiatives for specific regions. With a blend of welfare commitments, job assurances, and infrastructure goals, the LDF manifesto aims to reinforce its governance track record while presenting a forward-looking vision. As the campaign nears its conclusion, the front relies on its past performance and ambitious pledges to solidify voter backing across key demographics.
