Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle, aged 92, passed away in Mumbai on Sunday. She was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday. The Culture Minister of Maharashtra, Ashish Shelar, confirmed her demise outside the hospital.
On Saturday, Asha Bhosle’s granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle, shared that her grandmother was hospitalized due to extreme exhaustion and a chest infection. Zanai requested privacy during this challenging time.
Asha Bhosle, one of the most influential singers of her era, began her playback singing career with the 1943 Marathi drama ‘Majha Bal’. Known for hits like ‘Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko’ and ‘Do Lafzon Ki Hai Dil Ki Kahani’, she has sung in nearly 20 languages.
In 2006, Asha Bhosle revealed she had recorded almost 12,000 songs. Over her illustrious career, she collaborated with renowned music composers like RD Burman and AR Rahman. Honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000 and a Padma Vibhushan in 2008, she received accolades for her exceptional contributions to music.
