A caretaker at Bannerghatta Biological Park in Bengaluru was seriously injured after being attacked by a leopard on Friday morning. The victim, identified as Shantappa, was cleaning inside the leopard’s enclosure when the incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. Despite being fed its regular diet the night before, the leopard managed to escape to another cage and attack Shantappa during the cleaning process.
The attack resulted in Shantappa sustaining severe injuries to his neck, face, and chest. He was promptly taken to a hospital in Jigani, on the outskirts of Bengaluru, where he is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be recovering. Recent incidents at the park have raised concerns about tourist safety and human-wildlife conflict, with previous attacks on visitors leading to safety reviews and stricter rules being implemented.
Bannerghatta Biological Park, known for its leopard safari, is a popular attraction in Bengaluru, drawing numerous visitors. The park, a part of Bannerghatta National Park, operates independently and focuses on eco-recreation and eco-tourism, spanning 20 hectares.
