A leopard cub, rescued from a residential area near Coimbatore, was discovered dead as forest officials tried to reunite it with its mother. The cub was found inside a house at the Marudhamalai foothills and was then placed in a cave-like enclosure in a nearby forest patch. Despite efforts to mimic a natural den and monitor the area, the cub went missing from the structure.
Forest personnel, following sounds of leopards near the enclosure, located the cub about 300 meters away, where it was found unresponsive and later confirmed dead. An investigation into the cause of death will be conducted through a post-mortem examination, adhering to wildlife protocols and with oversight from voluntary organizations. Officials emphasized that the reunion process adhered to standard guidelines, with more information to follow after the post-mortem report.
