Lieutenant General Pushpendra Pal Singh has stepped down from his role as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff, concluding his tenure in a prominent leadership position within the Indian Army. Following the customary practice, he honored fallen soldiers by laying a wreath at the National War Memorial in New Delhi and also inspected a Guard of Honour at South Block.
A distinguished alumnus of La Martiniere College, Lucknow University, and the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun, Lt Gen Singh boasts a rich military career that spans numerous decades. Throughout his service, he actively participated in significant military operations such as Operation Pawan, Operation Meghdoot, and Operation Orchid, accumulating extensive operational expertise across various terrains and conflict regions.
Lt Gen Singh has held various crucial command and staff roles during his career. He led a Special Forces unit in the Kashmir Valley and along the Line of Control, commanded an Infantry Brigade and a Mountain Division during Operation Snow Leopard along the Line of Actual Control, and served as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of a Corps based in Himachal Pradesh, overseeing strategically vital areas including Jammu, Samba, and Pathankot.
Recognized for his profound operational acumen and comprehensive understanding of dynamics along the western and northern borders, Lt Gen Singh has completed several prestigious training programs, including the Staff Course at the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington and the Higher Defence Management Course at the College of Defence Management in Secunderabad.
Academically, he holds a Master’s degree in Management Studies from Osmania University and a Master of Philosophy degree from Panjab University. In acknowledgment of his exceptional service to the nation, Lt Gen Singh has been honored with the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and a Bar to the Sena Medal.
