Local favorites Surya Charishma Tamiri and Shruti Mundada caused upsets by defeating the top two seeds in straight games at the Senior National Badminton Championships in Vijayawada. Surya Charishma outclassed top seed Unnati Hooda 21-12, 21-15, while Shruti beat second seed Anupama Upadhyaya 22-20, 21-12 to advance to the semifinals.
Surya Charishma will now face Rakshita Sree in the semifinals after Rakshita’s comeback victory against Tanvi Sharma. In the men’s singles category, top seed Kiran George overcame a tough challenge from Rounak Chauhan to secure a spot in the semifinals.
The women’s doubles top seeds, Rutuparna and Swetaparna Panda, were eliminated in the pre-quarterfinals by Riduvarshini Ramasamy and Sania Sikkandar. The tournament also saw promising performances from young Indian players Tanvi Sharma, Rounak Chauhan, and Tanvi Patri in the earlier rounds.
