Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla recently met with Deputy Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Yakushev, and other members of the Russian Parliamentary delegation in New Delhi. The discussions revolved around enhancing cooperation in trade, technology, cultural linkages, and strengthening parliamentary ties between India and Russia. Birla expressed optimism about advancing parliamentary engagement and fostering people-to-people connections, emphasizing the deep-rooted strategic partnership between the two nations based on trust and mutual respect.
During the meeting, Secretary (East) of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Periasamy Kumaran, and other officials were also in attendance. Birla highlighted the significance of inter-parliamentary engagement as a crucial aspect of cooperation that promotes mutual understanding and strengthens democratic institutions. The meeting aimed to further solidify the enduring strategic partnership shared by India and Russia.
The visit of Vladimir Yakushev to India from April 2-4 includes scheduled meetings with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Indian parliamentarians. The discussions will encompass various aspects of Russian-Indian inter-parliamentary, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian cooperation. Additionally, Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov arrived in New Delhi for high-level talks covering defense, energy, trade, and other bilateral issues, further underlining the commitment to enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries.
