The Madhya Pradesh Congress is gearing up to escalate its criticism of the ruling BJP regarding farmers’ concerns, particularly the delay in wheat procurement at Minimum Support Price (MSP) for the Rabi Marketing Year 2026-27. State Congress President Jitu Pawari met with Shiv Kumar Sharma, a prominent figure in national agrarian movements, to discuss various agricultural issues in Bhopal.
During the meeting, Sharma highlighted worries about the delay in wheat procurement at MSP in Madhya Pradesh, expressing concerns about the government’s failure to provide jute gunny bags for the systematic procurement of farm produce. Allegations were made by the Congress leader, stating that the government’s inefficiency in arranging these bags has hindered the wheat procurement process in the state.
It is essential for district administrations and marketing federations to supply jute gunny bags for the organized procurement of paddy and other agricultural produce. This process involves the distribution of both new and used bags, centralized stock management, and joint oversight to prevent malpractices, ensuring a smooth process for farmers.
Claiming that the delayed procurement has forced many farmers in need of funds to sell their crops below the MSP, the Congress party aims to address these issues through the upcoming kisan movement across Madhya Pradesh. The state government has announced that wheat procurement at MSP for the Rabi Marketing Year 2026-27 will commence from April 1 in certain divisions, with a bonus included for farmers.
