The Madhya Pradesh government has provided Rs 2 lakh in compensation to each of the 18 families who lost their loved ones due to an illness outbreak caused by contaminated drinking water in the Bhagirathpura area of Indore. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced the compensation during his recent visit to the area.
Officials mentioned that the compensation was given to families where deaths have been confirmed, while the health crisis stemming from the contamination is under close observation. The selection of beneficiaries for compensation was based on reports confirming deaths in the affected families, as stated by Indore District Collector Shivam Verma.
Verma also mentioned that a team of senior doctors is investigating the causes of the deaths to determine the necessary actions. The list of beneficiaries includes a five-month-old boy named Avyan Sahu, among others, whose families were compensated for their losses.
Work on a 3,000-km-long water line in the Bhagirathpura area has been completed, with water supply restored and sample testing ongoing. The district administration has replaced the water pipeline in the area due to multiple leakages, ensuring that regular water supply is maintained after repairs.
Patients in Bhagirathpura are still experiencing symptoms like vomiting, with the authorities closely monitoring the situation. While only two patients were referred for treatment recently, the survey team remains active and vigilant in monitoring individuals showing such symptoms.
