Maharashtra’s Women and Child Development Minister, Aditi Tatkare, strongly criticized the actions attributed to self-proclaimed godman Ashok Kharat, labeling them as “extremely heinous and condemnable.” She expressed full support for the state government’s stance and highlighted the establishment of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to investigate the matter. Minister Tatkare emphasized her alignment with the Chief Minister’s position and stressed the importance of justice for the victims and severe punishment for the accused.
Addressing concerns raised by viral photographs showing Ashok Kharat with prominent political figures, Minister Tatkare refuted claims of political patronage and urged caution among politicians in Maharashtra regarding their associations. She clarified that encountering someone at a public event does not signify endorsement of their behavior. Tatkare emphasized that no political leader has come forward to defend Kharat’s actions, indicating a united stance against the alleged misconduct.
In response to criticism from state Congress chief Harshvardhan Sapkal, who accused her of inaction amid rising atrocities against women, Minister Tatkare defended her responsibilities and commitment to addressing the issue. She dismissed the allegations and reiterated her dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of women in the state.
As the political landscape in Maharashtra remains charged over the issue of women’s safety and the influence of self-styled godmen, Minister Tatkare’s statements underscore the government’s resolve to uphold justice and accountability in such cases.
