Mahindra Racing, the sole Indian team in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, achieved a podium finish at the Mexico City E-Prix, with Edoardo Mortara claiming second place in Round 2. Mortara’s performance highlighted both his skill as a driver and the increasing competitiveness of Mahindra’s GEN3 Evo package. He outpaced Nick Cassidy of Citroen Racing from New Zealand, while Oliver Rowland of Nissan Formula E Team secured third place. This success underscores the strong start to the season for Mahindra Racing, showcasing the potential of their GEN3 Evo package.
The early success of the team’s package is evident, setting a positive tone for the only Indian representative in the Formula E grid. Mortara, who had a challenging start in the season-opening Sao Paulo E-Prix, finishing outside the points, has now made a significant impact. In the Sao Paulo race, Jake Dennis of Andretti Formula E claimed the top spot, with Rowland and Cassidy following in second and third places, respectively. Cassidy currently leads the standings with 40 points after two rounds, with Dennis and Rowland closely behind at 36 and 34 points, respectively. Mortara from Mahindra Racing holds the 5th position with 18 points.
The point system awards the top 10 riders, with the winner receiving 25 points, followed by 18 and 15 points for second and third places, respectively. The upcoming round in Miami (USA) on January 31 will mark the third race of the season, which comprises a total of 17 rounds. As a pioneer team in Formula E, Mahindra Racing continues to leverage the championship as a global technology platform, in line with the Mahindra Group’s Race to Road strategy. The team’s insights from the track directly contribute to the development of electric cars and SUVs for both Indian and global markets.
