In a significant border security operation near the India-Bangladesh border close to Dawki, Meghalaya Police intercepted 18 Bangladeshi nationals and detained two Indian touts. The operation, based on specific intelligence inputs, was carried out by a Special Team of the West Jaintia Hills Police in coordination with local authorities.
The interception began in the early hours of the day, with the first apprehension occurring near the Amlarem area where a vehicle transporting four Bangladeshi nationals was stopped. Subsequent questioning of the detained individuals led to the interception of three more vehicles carrying a total of 14 Bangladeshi nationals.
Five vehicles were seized during the operation, and five drivers were also taken into custody. All detained individuals, including the Indian touts, have been handed over for further legal action under the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025. The district officials emphasized their commitment to border security and urged local communities to assist in preventing illegal activities.
