Major League Cricket (MLC) has been granted official List-A status by the International Cricket Council (ICC) just ahead of its second season, which kicks off on July 5.
This recognition, following a successful inaugural season, establishes MLC as America’s first world-class domestic T20 league.
“Every century, half-century, ‘five-for,’ run-out, win, loss, and championship will now be recorded as official career statistics in an internationally recognized format. This provides local US players and emerging stars the chance for international recognition, further advancing domestic talent,” stated MLC’s official release.
As the premier professional Twenty20 cricket championship in the United States, MLC has captured significant attention. “Cricket mania swept the US last year with our inaugural season. Now, with the ICC T20 World Cup and MLC’s second season on the horizon, we’re poised for an unforgettable summer of cricket, ready to enthrall American sports fans with our exhilarating game,” said MLC CEO Vijay Srinivasan.
Sanctioned exclusively by USA Cricket, MLC features global cricket superstars and brings top-tier T20 action to American audiences. The inaugural 2023 season included teams such as the Los Angeles Knight Riders, MI New York, San Francisco Unicorns, Seattle Orcas, Texas Super Kings, and Washington Freedom.
