A major theft of 27 cooking gas cylinders occurred in Mumbai’s Charkop area of Kandivali West, raising worries about a shortage. The incident took place overnight on March 25 and 26 when unidentified thieves targeted a delivery vehicle, making off with 27 cylinders, both filled and empty.
The Mumbai Police have registered a case against the unknown culprits at Charkop Police Station and are actively working to identify and apprehend them. The complainant, Nandkumar Ramraj Soni, a delivery agent with Shriji Gas Service, reported the theft. Soni, who has been delivering LPG cylinders for seven years, relies on this work for his family’s livelihood.
Soni parked his delivery vehicle in Charkop on March 25, loaded with cylinders for the next day’s distribution. However, upon returning the next morning, he found the vehicle vandalized, with all cylinders stolen. The stolen cylinders are valued at approximately Rs 15,500, prompting Soni to report the incident to the police.
Multiple teams are now actively pursuing the case, reviewing CCTV footage for leads on the suspects. Efforts include questioning individuals associated with scrap markets and illegal gas trade networks to recover the stolen cylinders. The police are conducting a thorough investigation from various angles, aiming to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators.
