At least nine people were tragically killed and 21 others injured in a devastating incident on Christmas Day in Chitradurga district, Karnataka. The catastrophe occurred when a sleeper coach bus collided with a truck on National Highway 48, resulting in a fierce fire that engulfed the bus. Preliminary reports suggest that eight bus passengers are feared dead.
The collision, which took place around 2 a.m. at Gorlattu Cross, involved a truck crossing the divider and crashing into the bus after the driver lost control. The truck driver, identified as Kuldeep, also lost his life in the accident. Investigators suspect that the truck struck the bus’s fuel tank, leading to the fire that claimed multiple lives.
Among the injured, 11 individuals were hospitalized in Hiriyur town, nine in Sira town, and three in Tumakuru city. One severely injured person was transferred to Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru for specialized care. Authorities are working to identify the deceased and ensure proper procedures for the victims and their families.
