On the occasion of Rajasthan Diwas, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed that the ‘Rajasthani’ and ‘Marwari’ communities are integral to West Bengal, acknowledging their contributions to the region’s development. She emphasized their significant role across various sectors in the state’s progress. Banerjee assured that these communities will always be part of the “Bengal family,” aiming for their growth and prosperity in a peaceful and harmonious environment.
Political analysts noted the strategic significance of Banerjee’s message during the upcoming two-phase Assembly polls in West Bengal. The message is seen as an effort to engage with the Rajasthani and Marwari societies, traditionally aligned with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In areas like Bhabanipur, where a substantial portion of non-Bengali-speaking Hindu voters, including Rajasthani and Marwari communities, traditionally support the BJP, Banerjee’s recent social media post holds particular importance.
The Bhabanipur constituency, set for polls on April 29, has gained prominence as Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee contests against the Leader of Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari. This constituency, known for its diverse electorate, including a significant presence of non-Bengali-speaking voters, is a key battleground in the upcoming elections.
