West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has called on voters to stop polling if there are reports of electronic voting machine (EVM) malfunctions during the upcoming two-phase Assembly elections in the state. She also warned against alleged attempts by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to obstruct genuine voters from reaching polling stations using Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel.
Banerjee emphasized the importance of vigilance, stating that the BJP may try to hinder voters from reaching polling stations on election day with the help of CAPF. She advised voters to refrain from voting in case of EVM malfunctions and demanded the replacement of faulty machines. Additionally, she urged voters to safeguard EVM strong rooms, especially highlighting the role of women in this process.
The Chief Minister also cautioned voters about potential efforts by the BJP to introduce outsiders into various areas. She urged the public to monitor the activities of outsiders in their localities, including their accommodations and any attempts to influence voters with money. Banerjee expressed determination to secure victory in Bengal and indicated that the next target would be New Delhi.
Accusing the Congress and CPI-M of having covert agreements with the BJP for the Assembly polls, Banerjee advised against dividing votes by supporting these parties. She highlighted the need for unity against the BJP and warned voters that backing Congress or CPI-M would essentially benefit the BJP.
Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress has submitted a list of 40 star campaigners for the upcoming two-phase Assembly elections in April, with Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee among the top names. The list includes key party members, MPs, and MLA candidates who will campaign for the party in the elections.
