A man from Maharashtra, Pandurang Kondmangale, was arrested for pushing his six-year-old daughter into a canal in Telangana’s Nizamabad district. The incident occurred as Pandurang sought to bypass the two-child norm to run in the upcoming Panchayat elections. The victim, identified as Prachi, was found dead in the Nizam Sagar canal, leading to the arrest of Pandurang and village sarpanch Ganesh Ramachandra Shinde.
Nizamabad Police Commissioner P. Sai Chaitanya disclosed that Pandurang confessed to the crime after initially misleading authorities. Pandurang, a barber by profession, aimed to contest the elections but was ineligible due to having three children. To overcome this, he conspired with the village sarpanch to eliminate one of his daughters, Prachi. The duo considered adoption initially but later decided to kill the child to circumvent the two-child rule for candidates in local body polls.
Pandurang took Prachi to the canal, where he pushed her in and fled the scene. Villagers discovered the girl’s body and alerted the police, initiating an investigation. Prachi’s photos circulated on social media, leading to her identification by someone from the Maharashtra village. Subsequently, the police arrested Pandurang and the sarpanch following their probe into the tragic incident.
