Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh reiterated the government’s focus on restoring peace and harmony in the state during his visit to the mixed-populated Jiribam district. He aims to develop Jiribam into a model region and highlighted its role in peace-building efforts. The district witnessed people from all communities coming together following an ethnic crisis in May 2023.
Chief Minister Khemchand Singh plans to explore tourism projects at the Inter State Truck Terminus site in Jiribam, collaborating with the Town Planning Department. Strengthening bonds among communities and ensuring lasting peace are central to his government’s agenda. He also led a tree plantation drive during his visit, emphasizing support for Internally Displaced Persons affected by ethnic violence.
The Chief Minister’s visit to Jiribam, his second since taking office, included a significant road journey covering over 220 km from Imphal. The route, passing through Kangpokpi, holds symbolic importance due to its tribal community demographics. He interacted with residents, assuring continued assistance to IDPs within the state’s capacity. Jiribam stands out as the first district in Manipur where communities have united to restore peace post-ethnic unrest.
