Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh led a high-level meeting to evaluate strategies for the state’s economic recovery, focusing on advancing the Integrated Farming System (IFS). The meeting, held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, highlighted the need to promote alternative crop cultivation and allied activities in the hill districts. Discussions also centered on the state’s potential for exporting agricultural and horticultural products.
The objective of the meeting was to enhance the state’s economy through integrated farming practices, capitalizing on Manipur’s strengths in agriculture and horticulture. The directives issued by the Chief Minister are anticipated to bolster the state’s efforts towards economic resurgence. Key officials including Manipur Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel and Agriculture Director Peter Salam were present at the review session.
Meanwhile, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla commended the success of promoting organic Chak-Hao during a recent address to the state Assembly. Notably, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed for the inaugural export of 20 metric tonnes of white Chak-hao rice to Japan. The certification of Chak-hao with the AGMARK seal marked a significant achievement, recognizing Manipur’s unique black scented rice for its exceptional qualities.
Under the Oil Palm Development Programme, a fresh MoU was inked to establish oil palm plantations across 2,700 hectares by 2025-26, with 1,200 hectares already identified and 402 hectares planted. Initiatives like the Digital Agriculture Mission and Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana have made substantial progress in supporting farmers through various agricultural schemes.
