The Council of Ministers under Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh is set to expand after the upcoming Budget session of the state Assembly, as per BJP sources. Khemchand Singh took office on February 4 following the lifting of President’s Rule in Manipur. Currently, the Ministry led by Khemchand Singh has seven vacant ministerial positions awaiting appointments.
BJP MLA Nemcha Kipgen and Loishi Dikho of the Naga People’s Front were sworn in as Deputy Chief Ministers alongside CM Khemchand Singh. Additionally, BJP MLA Govindas Konthoujam and Khuraijam Loken Singh of the National People’s Party took oath as Cabinet Ministers. Notably, Nemcha Kipgen, the only woman Minister in Manipur, was virtually sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister due to security concerns.
The expansion of the Council of Ministers is expected to occur post the Budget session of the Manipur Assembly, likely following the Holi festival. Chief Minister Khemchand Singh emphasized the collective responsibility of restoring peace in the state, involving all stakeholders, including elected representatives. The Manipur Assembly, comprising 60 members, has a term until 2027, having been under President’s Rule since February 13, 2025.
