To prevent further violence, the Manipur government has suspended internet services in Kangpokpi and Kamjong hill districts, adjacent to the troubled Ukhrul district. Recent incidents in Ukhrul’s Litan Sareikhong village involved arson and firing, resulting in the destruction of several houses. The decision to curb internet services was made to maintain law and order and prevent the misuse of social media platforms.
The state government’s notification highlighted the temporary suspension of internet and data services in specific districts for five days as a preventive measure. Security forces are actively working to stabilize the situation in the tense mountainous areas. Additional security personnel, including central paramilitary forces, have been deployed to sensitive zones to ensure peace.
Amid the escalating tensions, Manipur Police reported incidents of miscreants burning houses in villages surrounding Litan Sareikhong village. Preventive measures such as imposing curfew and enhancing security presence have been implemented to avert further violence. The situation, though still tense, is under control, with senior officers closely monitoring developments on the ground.
The opposition Congress has urged immediate action to restore peace and prevent further unrest. Congress Legislature Party leader Keisham Meghachandra Singh expressed deep concern over the ongoing violence between communities, emphasizing the need for unity and peace. The clashes between Naga and Kuki tribal groups have prompted security measures, including prohibitory orders and tear gas dispersal.
