Indian shooter Manu Bhaker has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Indian female athlete to win two medals in a single Olympic Games. On July 30, 2024, Bhaker clinched a bronze medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event, adding to her earlier bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol. This achievement breaks a 12-year drought for India in shooting events at the Olympics.

Bhaker, alongside her shooting partner Sarbajot Singh, competed against Korea’s Wonho Lee and Jin Ye Oh. The duo delivered a stellar performance, securing victory with a scoreline of 16-10. Initially, Korea led with a score of 20.5 to 18.8 in the first round, but the Indian team made a remarkable comeback in subsequent rounds, ultimately winning four out of the five rounds.

Despite a few setbacks, Bhaker and Singh’s consistent shooting ensured their victory. They faced a brief challenge from Korea but managed to maintain their lead, finishing strong with a final score of 19.6. With this win, Bhaker joins the ranks of historic Olympians, including Norman Pritchard, who achieved a similar feat in 1900. She is also set to compete in the 25m pistol event, where she is a strong medal contender.
