Mausam Benazir Noor, a current Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member and former two-time Congress Lok Sabha member from Maldaha (Uttar) constituency in West Bengal, has rejoined the Congress party. She made her return at the All India Congress Committee’s headquarters in New Delhi in the presence of Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, party coordinator Golam Ahmed Mir, and State Congress President Suvankar Sarkar.
During her induction, Benazir Noor was joined by the only Congress Lok Sabha member from West Bengal, Isha Khan Chowdhury, who is also her first cousin. Isha Khan Chowdhury represents the second Lok Sabha constituency in Malda district. Mausam Benazir Noor, daughter of veteran Congress legislator Rubi Noor, was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2009 at the age of 29 and re-elected in 2014 from Maldaha (Uttar).
After joining the Trinamool Congress before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, she contested from Maldaha (Uttar) but was defeated in 2024 by BJP’s Khagen Murmu. Subsequently, she was sent to the Rajya Sabha by Trinamool Congress. Benazir Noor expressed her inspiration from her uncle Ghani Khan Chowdhury and mother, Rubi Noor, as reasons for joining Congress, citing their dedication to the people of West Bengal and Malda.
In a statement to the media, Benazir Noor mentioned her resignation from Trinamool Congress, including her Rajya Sabha membership, which she plans to submit on Monday. Her cousin, Isha Khan Chowdhury, expressed happiness at her return to Congress, fulfilling the wishes of the people of Malda. The Trinamool Congress has not yet commented on Benazir Noor’s departure from the party.
