A Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) contractor and his friend were arrested in West Delhi’s Subhash Nagar area following a fatal collision involving their Hyundai Verna and an e-scooter. The incident resulted in the death of a 25-year-old delivery rider named Hem Shankar. The impact of the crash was so severe that the delivery boy died at the scene.

Upon receiving reports of the accident, police swiftly responded and initiated an investigation. The speeding vehicle involved in the collision was impounded, and the driver, identified as Rakesh Kumar, was apprehended. The police statement indicated that the accident occurred near Subhash Nagar Metro red light on Najafgarh road towards Rajouri Garden.

Authorities mentioned that the injured rider was promptly taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital but was declared dead upon arrival. The victim’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and a thorough inquiry into the crash is currently in progress. The accused individuals have been detained, an FIR has been lodged, and the investigation is ongoing.

The victim’s brother, grieving the loss, demanded justice and expressed sorrow over the tragic incident. Eyewitnesses at the scene alleged that the car was speeding excessively at the time of the collision, reaching around 100 km per hour. One eyewitness recounted that the car hit a wall and a pole before colliding with the e-scooter, narrowly avoiding more severe casualties due to an obstruction.

Another eyewitness, an employee at a nearby petrol pump, described the events leading up to the crash, highlighting the reckless speed of the car. A colleague of the deceased confirmed that the victim was on duty during the accident and disclosed details about the car occupants’ alleged intoxication. Police are actively investigating the claims of drunken driving and other circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
