MI End DC’s Streak in Last-Over Drama

Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Spark Mumbai’s Big Total

Mumbai Indians bounced back into form in IPL 2025 with a thrilling 12-run victory over Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Batting first, the five-time champions set a commanding total of 205/5, thanks to a calculated yet aggressive batting performance.

Youngster Tilak Varma played a standout knock, smashing 59 off just 33 balls, laced with boundaries and clean striking. He was well-supported by South African Ryan Rickelton, who contributed a swift 41, and Suryakumar Yadav, who entertained with a fluent 40. Naman Dhir’s unbeaten 38 off 18 balls at the death propelled Mumbai past the 200-mark, even after Rohit Sharma’s early departure for 18.

Karun Nair’s Brilliance Can’t Save Delhi

Chasing 206, Delhi Capitals got off to a nightmare start, losing the in-form Jake Fraser-McGurk on the very first ball. The team then turned to Karun Nair, who was brought in as an Impact Player, and he delivered in style. Nair anchored the innings with a masterful 89 off 39 deliveries, filled with elegant strokes and smart placement.

He stitched together a crucial 119-run partnership with Abishek Porel (33), reviving Delhi’s hopes and bringing the equation within reach. But once the partnership was broken, the momentum began to slip away.

Run-Out Mayhem and Bumrah Brilliance Turn the Tide

With Delhi needing just 23 runs from the final two overs and three wickets in hand, the odds seemed in their favor. But Mumbai’s death-over specialist Jasprit Bumrah had other plans. In an extraordinary twist, the 19th over saw three consecutive run-outs — Ashutosh Sharma, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mohit Sharma — falling in chaotic fashion as Delhi panicked under pressure.

Bumrah’s precision and calm delivery under pressure ensured there was no comeback from Delhi. The home side was bowled out for 193, falling 12 runs short of what could have been a record fifth straight win.

What It Means for the Points Table

This crucial win lifts Mumbai Indians to two victories in six games, keeping their campaign alive and adding momentum going forward. For Delhi Capitals, the loss dents their net run rate, dropping them just below Gujarat Titans despite having a game in hand.
