Ministers in Uttar Pradesh have lauded Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s declaration that India is now nearly free of Maoists. They commended the dismantling of both central and state-level leadership structures of the insurgent movement just before the government’s March 31 deadline. The leaders expressed gratitude for the Centre’s proactive actions in curbing Maoist activities nationwide.
Addressing the Lok Sabha debate on Maoism, Shah detailed the progress achieved under the Government of India’s zero-tolerance policy. He highlighted the neutralization or surrender of the Maoists’ central committee leadership, with 12 members killed and only one remaining at large. Similar results were reported at the state committee level.
The Home Minister shared that over the past three years, 4,839 Maoists surrendered, 2,218 were arrested, and 706 were neutralized in encounters. Uttar Pradesh Minister Anil Rajbhar praised the government’s efforts, emphasizing the elimination of the Maoist threat from its roots. He credited Prime Minister Modi’s government and Home Minister Amit Shah for their decisive actions.
In his Lok Sabha speech, Shah criticized Rahul Gandhi and the Congress for allegedly fostering Maoism in the country. He condemned Rahul Gandhi for endorsing a slogan associated with Left-Wing Extremism and accused the Congress of supporting Naxalites ideologically. Another Uttar Pradesh Minister, Om Prakash Rajbhar, supported Shah’s stance, affirming the government’s commitment to safeguarding national security.
Shah expressed confidence in achieving a Maoist-free India, with weakened organizational structures and minimal presence in affected states. He assured that once formalities are finalized, India will be officially declared free from the longstanding challenge of Left-Wing Extremism.
