The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is set to unveil the Ravi Shastri Stand and dedicate stadium gates to former India stars Dilip Sardesai, Eknath Solkar, and Diana Edulji at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. The ceremony, approved by the MCA Apex Council in February, will be attended by the Honourable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, MCA President Ajinkya Naik, and other cricketing dignitaries.
The Level 1 Stand below the Press Box will be named after Ravi Shastri, recognizing his significant contributions to Mumbai and Indian cricket. Additionally, Gate No. 3, Gate No. 5, and Gate No. 6 will be unveiled as the Dilip Sardesai Gate, Diana Edulji Gate, and Eknath Solkar Gate, respectively, in tribute to these cricketing stalwarts. This initiative aims to honor their lasting impact on Indian cricket.
MCA President Ajinkya Naik expressed pride in honoring these iconic figures, emphasizing the importance of celebrating their legacy and inspiring future generations to emulate their values. The event highlights MCA’s dedication to preserving its cricketing heritage while fostering a strong foundation for the sport’s future growth.
In a similar vein, the MCA previously dedicated stands to cricketing legends like Rohit Sharma, Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengarkar, and Sachin Tendulkar, along with Gates named after Polly Umrigar and Vinoo Mankad.
