Actress-director Nandita Das expressed disapproval of the restrictive censorship surrounding the upcoming movie ‘The Kerala Story 2 – Goes Beyond’. At the Sashakt Nari, Viksit Bharat event organized by Chintan Research Foundation, she voiced her concerns about the stay order imposed by the Kerala High Court on the film’s release.
Das emphasized the importance of artistic freedom, stating that censorship hinders the creative process. She highlighted the significance of allowing art to flourish, even if it means some works may not meet expectations. Das emphasized the role of time in evaluating the merit of art, advocating for a free environment where both good and bad creations can be produced.
The makers of ‘The Kerala Story 2 – Goes Beyond’ sought relief from the Apex court following the interim stay granted by the Kerala High Court. The High Court’s decision was based on concerns regarding the certification process by the Censor Board, suggesting a lack of thorough evaluation. The film, a sequel to the award-winning ‘The Kerala Story’, was scheduled for release but faced legal hurdles due to the court’s intervention.
