Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Paatil announced the National Mission for Clean Ganga’s plan to introduce CCTV-based real-time monitoring integrated with AI tools. This initiative aims to enhance the monitoring of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs). The Minister emphasized the importance of technology-driven river rejuvenation during the 17th meeting of the Empowered Task Force (ETF).
Elaborating on the CCTV-based system, Paatil highlighted that STPs are currently monitored through Online Continuous Effluent Monitoring Systems (OCEMS). These systems track essential water quality parameters and are integrated with the public Ganga Pulse dashboard. The new initiative, incorporating AI-enabled features and a centralized dashboard, will provide physical and visual monitoring to ensure the effective operation of STPs.
The meeting primarily focused on strengthening data-based decision-making, monitoring mechanisms, and compliance frameworks under the Namami Gange Programme. Special attention was given to drainage mapping and enhanced surveillance of sewage treatment infrastructure. The completion of 15 pollution abatement infrastructure projects in the past year was acknowledged as a significant achievement in the ongoing efforts for Ganga rejuvenation.
Paatil commended the coordination, monitoring, and implementation efforts that led to the successful completion of these projects. This progress lays a solid foundation for the long-term rejuvenation of rivers. Uttar Pradesh led the states with six completed projects, followed by Bihar and West Bengal with four and three projects, respectively. Additionally, Uttarakhand and Delhi each completed one project.
