The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) apprehended Reshma Bibi, the spouse of suspected drug trafficking leader Sheikh Munir, in Kolkata, confiscating drugs valued at approximately Rs 50 crore. The arrest followed a raid in the Ekbalpur area based on specific intelligence inputs. Further details are anticipated to surface during questioning.
Sheikh Munir, allegedly a significant player in an international drug trafficking network spanning multiple countries, is presently on the run. Authorities suspect that his wife has been managing the network from their Ekbalpur residence in his absence. The NCB’s operation forms part of heightened surveillance and enforcement measures ahead of the state’s upcoming Assembly elections.
As part of the intensified efforts, officials are delving into the network’s scope, spanning Kolkata and nearby areas, while striving to pinpoint other involved individuals and potential drug storage locations. The agency is rigorously investigating the matter to ensure strict law enforcement.
West Bengal is set to conduct polling in 294 Assembly constituencies over two phases on April 23 and April 29, with the counting scheduled for May 4. The Election Commission has deployed observers to oversee the electoral process and guarantee fair and transparent elections.
