The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) core committee recently convened a lengthy meeting, urging party president and Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar to involve the leadership before making significant decisions or drafting crucial letters on party matters. The committee expressed confidence in Pawar’s leadership and committed to enhancing unity within the party. The meeting was prompted by Pawar’s request to the Election Commission of India to disregard any communication between January 28 and her official appointment on February 26, following a plane crash involving Ajit Pawar.
The committee, led by Sunetra Pawar, gathered to strategize on navigating the situation and demonstrating solidarity. Attendees included senior leaders like Praful Patel, Sunil Tatkare, Chhagan Bhujbal, Dilip Walse Patil, Dhananjay Munde, and Parth Pawar, the son of Ajit Pawar. Patel and Tatkare emphasized that decisions made regarding the national convention, Pawar’s appointment, and their roles were in line with the party’s Constitution. They expressed dissatisfaction with the hasty communication to the Election Commission, urging Pawar to retract her letter to avoid legal complications.
The party’s chief spokesman, Brijmohan Srivastav, highlighted the need for unified efforts to uphold Ajit Pawar’s legacy and minimize internal conflicts. The meeting concluded with a unanimous agreement to collaborate under Sunetra Pawar’s leadership to foster the party’s progress and prevent internal divisions. Pawar assured leaders of her commitment to inclusivity in shaping the party’s future trajectory. Minister Bhujbal proposed reaching out to Congress and Shiv Sena to support Pawar’s uncontested election during the upcoming Baramati assembly by-election on April 23.
