The National Commission for Women (NCW) is hosting a three-day outreach and capacity-building program in Assam from February 3 to 6. Led by NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, the initiative “She Is a Changemaker” aims to enhance grassroots women’s leadership and institutional coordination in the state. Over 3,000 Elected Women Representatives (EWRs) from Panchayati Raj Institutions and Urban Local Bodies will receive training on leadership, legal awareness, and governance processes.
A significant aspect of the program includes engaging around 500 elected women representatives from various districts in workshops focusing on their role as change-makers. NCW Chairperson will kick off a Bike Rally in Nalbari on February 4, followed by a workshop. The day will also involve discussions with district administration and police officials on the implementation of women-centric laws and schemes.
In Darrang district on February 5, the Chairperson will visit the One Stop Centre to evaluate support services for women in distress. Another capacity-building workshop will be inaugurated for elected women representatives from multiple districts. An interaction with nearly 1,000 women beneficiaries of various welfare schemes is also planned for the day, followed by review meetings with administrative and police officers.
On February 6 in Guwahati, the NCW Chairperson will lead a significant engagement with around 1,500 elected women representatives from different districts. The aim is to promote participatory governance, enhance women’s leadership at the grassroots level, and improve inter-institutional coordination for a safer environment for women in Assam.
