Nearly 60% of voters have cast their ballots in the Koridang Assembly bypoll in Nagaland’s Mokokchung district by 1 P.M. on Thursday. Security has been significantly increased across the constituency due to pre-poll violence, with one fatality and several injuries reported.
Voting started at 7 A.M. at all 30 polling stations and has been peaceful so far. The polling will continue until 4 P.M., with vote counting scheduled for May 4. A total of 22,390 eligible voters, including 11,013 women, will decide among six candidates.
The district administration has imposed a night curfew in four villages following recent violence. The inter-state border between Mokokchung district and Assam has been sealed to prevent unauthorized movement and ensure a fair electoral process.
Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma has taken measures to prevent disturbances during the election. The by-election was triggered by the passing of MLA Imkong L. Imchen, with his son being the consensus candidate of the ruling alliance.
