Newly sworn-in Nepalese Prime Minister Balendra Shah expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his congratulatory message and aims to strengthen ties between the two nations. PM Modi congratulated Shah on his appointment and expressed willingness to enhance the friendship between India and Nepal for the mutual benefit of their citizens. The Nepal Prime Minister’s Office appreciated PM Modi’s warm wishes and expressed eagerness to collaborate for the prosperity of both countries.
Nepal’s President appointed Balendra Shah, also known as Balen, as the new Prime Minister following his election as the parliamentary party leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party. Shah’s appointment follows the party’s significant victory in the recent parliamentary elections, where they secured a substantial majority. At 35 years old, Shah is among the youngest individuals to hold the position of Prime Minister in Nepal, reflecting a shift towards a younger generation in the country’s political landscape.
Balendra Shah’s entry into national politics last year had a notable impact, with his party’s campaign focusing on him as the prime ministerial candidate. This strategy proved successful as the Rastriya Swatantra Party secured a landslide victory in the parliamentary elections. Shah’s victory over former Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli by a significant margin marked a historic milestone in Nepal’s electoral history, with the highest number of votes secured by a candidate since 1991.
Shah, born in 1990 into a Madhesi family in Kathmandu, holds a master’s degree in Structural Engineering and has a background in infrastructure and urban development. His governance approach during his tenure as the Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City was influenced by his academic expertise.
