Newly-appointed Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Tamim Iqbal conducted his inaugural official meeting with the Board’s ad-hoc executive committee at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. This signifies the commencement of a new administrative era for Bangladesh cricket. The BCB is set to convene its upcoming board meeting shortly.
Following the dissolution of the previous leadership of the Bangladesh Cricket Board due to corruption allegations against former chief Aminul Islam, the new BCB president, Tamim Iqbal, arrived at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Addressing the media post the meeting with the newly formed ad-hoc committee, Tamim emphasized the critical need to restore the board’s credibility.
Tamim acknowledged the persistent criticisms but stressed the collective responsibility to rejuvenate pride in Bangladesh cricket. He highlighted the significance of respect within the system, emphasizing the need to respect players and stakeholders. The ad-hoc committee has been entrusted by the National Sports Council to organize elections within 90 days, a task Tamim assured would be executed with integrity.
Tamim expressed openness regarding his participation in the upcoming elections, emphasizing inclusivity in the electoral process. The committee, besides overseeing the elections, will manage day-to-day operations and address World Cup matters. Additionally, Tamim will represent Bangladesh at the forthcoming ICC meetings, as confirmed by ad-hoc member Tanzil Chowdhury.
BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla extended his congratulations to Tamim Iqbal on assuming the role of BCB president, expressing optimism about his leadership benefiting cricket in Bangladesh and beyond.
