The Ahmedabad Crime Branch and the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) successfully rescued a 15-day-old baby from a moving vehicle near Kotarpur, close to Ahmedabad airport. This operation, triggered by a tip-off, led to the interception of a car from Himmatnagar, where the newborn was found. Four individuals, including Roshan Agarwal, Sumit Yadav, Vandana Panchal, and the driver Maulik Dave, were apprehended during the raid.
The rescued infant was promptly handed over to the Child Health Officer for necessary medical attention and protection. Investigations revealed that the baby had been bought for Rs 3.60 lakh from a trafficker named Munna in Himmatnagar. The accused were en route to Hyderabad to sell the child to an agent named Nagaraj. However, both Munna and Nagaraj are currently on the run, with police intensifying efforts to capture them.
According to ACP Bharat Patel, the rescued baby is just 15 days old. Authorities are delving into identifying the biological mother and the intermediaries involved in this trafficking network. Vandana and Roshan have a history of involvement in child trafficking cases in Hyderabad. The network reportedly sources newborns mainly from the Sabarkantha and Banaskantha regions.
The police are investigating the fate intended for the rescued infant, as such children are often sold to childless couples or trafficked through illegal adoption channels. ACP Patel emphasized the importance of apprehending Munna to trace the child’s biological parents. This incident echoes a previous case where the Ahmedabad Rural Police dismantled a child trafficking gang involved in abducting children from Dholka and selling them in Maharashtra.
