The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a second supplementary charge sheet in the 2023 Bengaluru prison radicalisation case involving the banned terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The newly named accused are Anees Fathima, Chan Pasha A, and Dr Nagaraj S, facing charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and other acts. This case, initially investigated by Bengaluru City Police, uncovered a plot to disrupt India’s sovereignty by planning terror activities in Bengaluru.
The NIA had previously charged nine individuals, including absconder Junaid Ahmed, in connection with the case. The accused were found in possession of arms, ammunition, and digital devices, with intentions to aid the escape of a convicted terrorist. Anees Fathima, identified as Junaid Ahmed’s mother, allegedly provided support to the convict inside the prison and assisted in his escape to Dubai. Meanwhile, Chan Pasha A., an Assistant Sub-Inspector, is accused of receiving bribes for leaking sensitive information about the convict’s movements.
Dr Nagaraj S., a psychiatrist at the Central Prisons Hospital, was involved in smuggling mobile phones into the prison for monetary gain. These phones were used by the convict to communicate with co-conspirators. The NIA continues its investigation to locate other absconding suspects in this case, which is registered as RC-28/2023/NIA/DLI.
