The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids in various locations across the Kashmir Valley as part of an investigation into terror-related activities and funding networks. The searches, assisted by local police and CRPF, took place in Srinagar, Baramulla, Sopore, and Bandipora. These raids are part of a broader crackdown on terror financing and support networks in the region.
In Baramulla district, the NIA carried out raids in Bomai Sopore, Zethan Rafiabad, and Model Town Sopore. Simultaneously, searches were ongoing in Bandipora’s main town and the HMT Mustafabad area in Srinagar district. Further details and an official statement are awaited regarding these operations.
The NIA has been actively pursuing terror-related cases in designated courts. Recently, on January 18, 2019, the NIA filed a charge sheet against 12 individuals, including leaders like Hafiz Saeed and Syed Salahuddin. The agency is also opposing bail applications of separatist leaders such as Shabir Shah. Notably, the NIA is pushing for the death penalty for Yasin Malik, the JKLF chief, in a case related to the killing of four IAF personnel in Srinagar in 1990.
