Nine players with international experience have been selected for the New Zealand A squads set to tour Sri Lanka later this month. The tour will include three 50-over matches and two four-day matches in Galle and Hambantota, starting on April 5.
The NZ ‘A’ 50-over squad features eight BlackCaps players, including Muhammad Abbas, Adithya Ashok, Kristian Clarke, Mitch Hay, Ben Lister, Rhys Mariu, Ben Sears, and Tim Robinson. Abbas, Ashok, Clarke, and Sears will later join the ODI squad in Bangladesh, with Robinson moving to the BlackCaps T20I squad after the first red-ball game.
In the red-ball squad, four pace-bowlers will strengthen the team: Michael Rae, Jarrod McKay, Fraser Sheat, along with allrounders Ryan Harrison and Peter Younghusband. Several players, including Harrison, McKay, Sheat, and Younghusband, earned their maiden NZ A call-ups for their outstanding performances during the season.
Selection Manager Gavin Larsen expressed excitement in providing opportunities for players to enhance their skills. The squads are scheduled to depart for Sri Lanka on April 3 for the 50-over matches and on April 10 for the four-day matches.
