India’s technology services sector, valued at $265 billion, has the potential to grow to $750-850 billion by 2035, as per a 10-year roadmap unveiled by NITI Aayog. The roadmap emphasizes the importance of artificial intelligence in reshaping the industry towards IP-led and outcome-oriented models. It focuses on five key growth drivers: Agentic AI, Software and Products, Digital Infrastructure, Innovation-led Engineering, and India-for-India solutions.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal highlighted the significance of this roadmap in fostering innovation and growth within the technology services sector. He emphasized the government’s commitment to collaborating with industry stakeholders to position India as a global leader in next-gen technology services. Secretary of MeitY, S. Krishnan, noted India’s pursuit of an impact-driven AI strategy, aiming to transition AI from labs to practical industry applications.
The roadmap launch signifies a pivotal moment for India to shift from services dominance to global leadership in developing AI-centric systems. B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, CEO of NITI Aayog, underscored the transformative impact of AI on the technology services industry, presenting a unique opportunity for India to create new value streams and enhance global influence. Debjani Ghosh, a Distinguished Fellow at NITI Aayog, highlighted the sector’s adaptability and potential in embracing the AI era, emphasizing the emergence of a new operational model centered on human judgment and intelligent platforms.
