The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has reached significant milestones in the financial year 2025-26, focusing on enhancing connectivity, modernization, and passenger comfort in the Northeast region. NFR introduced 20 pairs of new train services, including premium and conventional trains, to improve regional and national connectivity.
In a move to boost operational efficiency, NFR increased the speeds of 35 trains, resulting in a total time saving of 675 minutes, with an average reduction of about 19 minutes per train. The railway also completed 100% electrification, supporting energy-efficient operations and enhancing overall train handling efficiency.
The commissioning of the Bairabi-Sairang railway line in Mizoram marked a significant development, with passenger services witnessing high demand and some trains operating at over 100% occupancy. Freight operations, including the transportation of various goods, have also seen notable progress, contributing to regional trade and economic growth.
NFR has made strides in infrastructure and modernization, introducing new services like India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper Express and enhancing station facilities. The railway’s focus on healthcare and education includes upgrading railway hospitals and schools, reflecting a comprehensive approach to development and welfare in the Northeast region.
