The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has implemented an advanced Optical Fibre Cable (OFC)-based Integrated Voice-cum-Data Communication System at Level Crossing (LC) Gates to improve safety and operational efficiency. This new system, deployed at 50 LC Gates, facilitates seamless communication between Station Masters and gate operators using Indian Railways’ OFC network. Station Masters can now monitor gate operations in real-time from their rooms, enhancing control and response capabilities.
The system, already operational at Senchoa Station and Barpathar Station, connects both non-interlocked and interlocked gates. It offers features like high-quality voice communication, integrated voice logging, and a Public Address system based on Internet Protocol, enabling comprehensive audio-visual monitoring of LC Gates. The technology also includes user-friendly functions such as single-touch calling, group communication, and battery health monitoring for improved operational efficiency.
An innovative feature of the system is its artificial intelligence-enabled noise filtering at the master console, ensuring clear communication by eliminating background disturbances. Centralized monitoring of all LC Gate cameras and public address announcements through additional IP-based units at gate locations further enhance communication and situational awareness for railway personnel. This initiative reflects NFR’s commitment to leveraging modern technology for enhanced safety measures and efficient railway operations management, especially at vulnerable Level Crossing Gates.
